With so many anti-aging methods available to us these days, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by all the options. Thanks to the latest technology, there’s been a shift from invasive surgical procedures (such as facelifts) to safer, non-invasive cosmetic solutions that include laser treatments, injectables and microdermabrasion. According to a study published by Medicard Finance, 126,554 Canadians received dermal fillers in 2005, only slightly behind the 142,374 that received Botox injections.

Of those treatments, one has been steadily becoming more and more popular since its 2004 debut; so much so that it has started to challenge Botox for the top non-surgical treatment: everyone, welcome Juvederm.

Most popular among women ages 35 to 50, Juvederm has become a regular part of people’s beauty regimes. Dr. Ellen Marmur, of Marmur Medical in New York City, uses Juvederm herself in combination with Botox to maintain a youthful glow. “My in-office maintenance includes Botox (or Dysport) twice a year between my eyebrows; Juvederm in my cheeks and under my eyes,” she’s said to W magazine.

Now that medical professionals have adopted it into their own beauty routine, Juvederm is finally ranked on the same level as Botox as a trusted beauty staple.

Below, the facts on why Juvederm is the number one doctor recommended facial filler in Canada.

1. Superior Quality

It boasts a higher quality of results simply because of one ingredient- hyaluronic acid. This naturally occurring sugar found in the body combines with the water in your skin to smooth away wrinkles and restore volume that has been lost in the face. This is what makes Juvederm a cut above the rest as it works to fill the face, not freeze the face. Juvederm’s key ingredient is safe for all skin types, making it a stand out amongst other products that aim for similar results.

2. Treats Multiple Problem Areas

Juvederm’s three product formulations (Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, and Juvederm Voluma) provide solutions for a variety of skin conditions that arise with age:

Moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles

These include nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines (folds below the corner of the mouth) and vertical lip lines (formed due to repeated lip muscle movement).

Increase volume in cheeks, chin and jaw

As we age, the volume in our faces decreases and we lose definition. Juvederm is excellent for mimicking the fullness one has in their twenties and maintaining a fresh-faced appearance.

Enhance lips

Just like with our faces, our lips lose its natural collagen over the years but Juvederm’s easy application makes it ideal for lip augmentation.

Reduce under-eye hollows

Otherwise known as tear troughs, Juvederm can help diminish the severity of under eye bags.

Reshape the nose

Juvederm can be used to conceal and correct any minor bumps and irregularities, including reshaping the tip of the nose and increase the height of the bridge.

3. Longer Lasting Results

In a study published in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Journal, 96% of Juvederm patients maintained their results six months after their treatment, and 81% of patients said they still experienced results a year or more after the procedure. Unlike other injectables, Juvederm treatment isn’t needed every few months. While some people prefer a couple of treatments per year, most are happy with a yearly treatment that provides them with a youthful glow.

4. Zero downtime and pain

Forget painful surgery and extensive recovery time. Juvederm is formulated with lidocaine (a localized pain reliever) to reduce discomfort, making it a relatively painless procedure. Following the procedure, patients will have to avoid excessive sun and heat exposure and wear sunscreen during the healing period, but otherwise they can go back to their normal schedule right away.

5. Minimal Side Effects

Because Juvederm uses a naturally derived molecule, side effects are usually minimal and restricted to redness, bruising and swelling. In rare cases, nerve and blood vessel injury have occurred.

With all above mentioned benefits, it’s not hard to see why Juvederm has becoming so popular over the last decade. People are openly speaking about Juvederm and similar fillers in an effort to make them more socially acceptable. Some celebrities have even appeared in ads for injectables and fillers like Juvederm, including Sharon Stone, Virginia Madsen and Courtney Thorne-Smith.

Price of one treatment is more costly than Botox (starting at around $550 for one syringe with most appointments requiring between 1-3), but when you consider the length of results, the cost of treatment evens out to almost equal to a protein-injectable like Botox or Dysport.
