The CoolGlide laser features a unique design and long wavelength that allows treatment of patients of all skin types. It works by delivering pulses of light energy, which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by the body.

Laser Vein Reduction Treatment

Depending on the number of vessels being treated, laser vein treatment is typically performed in 30 minutes or less. During the procedure, most patients experience a slight stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Following treatment, some redness or swelling may be present, however there is minimal, if any, discomfort. Some patients experience bruising which may persist for several weeks following treatment.

Patients generally resume normal activities immediately, however it is recommended that vigorous activities and strenuous exercise be avoided for 24 hours after treatment. The use of sunscreen is always recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun.

Individual results vary, although most patients find that the majority of treated veins show significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. Final results, however, may not be apparent for several months. One or two treatments are generally sufficient for optimal results, however this will depend on the number, colour, and size of the vessels being treated. Laser vein treatment will not prevent new vessels from forming over time, but these too can be treated with CoolGlide.
