PEARL – Skin Resurfacing

Pearl is a fast, safe, and minimally invasive resurfacing procedure which restores skin structure and gives a healthy, pearl-like glow to the skin. It is a suitable treatment for those patients with the following skin concerns:

• Mild to moderate sun damage
• Uneven texture
• Fine lines
• Mild acne scarring

During treatment, pulses of light are delivered to the top layer of skin in a pre-selected pattern, sending heat to the deeper layers, which causes a natural protective dressing to form over the skin. Topical and local anaesthetics are used to minimize discomfort. After treatment, the skins will look and feel mildly sunburned, and ointment is applied for several days to keep it moist.

The recovery period for Pearl is approximately three to four days, during which the skin will appear pink/red as the natural dressing peels away. Results are noticeable once the superficial tissue has peeled off, revealing, new, bright, healthy skin underneath. After treatment it is imperative that the skin be protected by a broad-spectrum sunblock, in order to prevent new sun damage from occurring.

Compared to the well-known “Fraxel” laser, Pearl offers noticeable results in just one treatment – versus four to six Fraxel treatments. Patients with more extensive sun damage may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart.

The ideal candidate for Pearl is one with fair to medium skin tone, who is seeking a more aggressive treatment for sun damage and uneven texture, without the lengthy downtime associated with traditional ablative technologies. Pearl is approved by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles and skin resurfacing.

Pearl Fractional – Skin Resurfacing

Pearl Fractional is a volumizing fractional laser perfected for treating photo damaged skin in just one treatment. It dramatically reverses the signs of aging, and results in a noticeably smoother, brighter complexion. Pearl Fractional is an ideal treatment for those patients of fair to medium skin tone; with one or more of the following skin concerns:
• Moderate to severe sun damage
• Fine lines and deeper wrinkles
• Uneven skin texture
• Periorbital (around the eyes ) wrinkles
• Perioral (around the mouth) wrinkles
• Acne scarring
Using fractional technology, this laser uses heat to create tiny holes in the skin. Columns of damaged tissue are selectively removed, leaving the surrounding skin intact. This stimulates new collagen growth, thus plumping the skin from below and reversing wrinkles and imperfections.

Because Pearl Fractional is a more aggressive treatment, there are specific pre- and post-treatment procedures that patients must follow. To minimize discomfort, both topical and local anaesthetics are utilized during treatment. Most patients describe the sensation as a series of fast, hot pinches. After treatment patients typically experience skin redness, swelling, and the feeling of being sunburned. Ointment is applied for several days to keep the skin moist.

Recovery time for Pearl Fractional is approximately 7 to 10 days, during which the skin begins to peel. Redness and swelling will gradually subside, although mild redness may persist for several weeks. Makeup can usually be applied after 5 to 7 days. After treatment it is imperative that the skin be protected by a broad-spectrum sunblock, in order to prevent new sun damage from occurring.

Many patients see improvement one week after treatment, although maximum results are visible in one to three months as the skin continues to produce new collagen in the treated area.

For those patients with deep, resistant wrinkles who are seeking the most dramatic results possible, Physician Skincare Centre often combines the Pearl and Pearl Fractional lasers.
