Laser Skin Treatments Reverse Sun Damage
Laser repair Of Sun Damage
Chronic sun damage refers to gradual changes in the skin caused by an accumulation of sun exposure throughout one’s life. The resulting cosmetic change in the skin’s appearance is called photo aging, and is characterized by:
• Solar lentigos (brown spots)
• Diffuse redness
• Telangiectasia (tiny red veins)
• Fine lines and deep wrinkles
Chronic sun damage may also lead to pre-cancerous lesions, and eventually skin cancer. The evidence is very strong that ultra-violet (UV) light is responsible for most of the changes considered to be associated with skin aging.
Laser repair of Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that is very common in fair-skinned individuals, and becoming increasingly widespread. It is characterized by:
• Redness on the cheeks, nose, forehead, or chin
• Small visible blood vessels on the face
• Bumps or pimples on the face
There is no known cause of rosacea, however it may be triggered by a number of factors including: sun exposure, wind, heavy exercise, stress, alcohol, hot beverages, and spicy foods. Rosacea is poorly-understood, and extreme cases can be socially debilitating for those suffering from the condition. There is no cure for rosacea, however it can be controlled, and its appearance vastly improved.
Physician Skincare Centre is pleased to offer LimeLight – a non-invasive laser treatment for those suffering from rosacea and/or sun-damaged skin. Using state-of-the-art intense pulsed light (IPL) technology, LimeLight effectively treats skin imperfections such as redness, tiny veins/capillaries, and brown spots. The treatment is unique in that it can be customized for a variety of skin types, and selectively targets the brown and/or red pigmented areas on the skin. Commonly treated areas include the face, chest, and hands.
Laser Sun Damage Treatment
Most LimeLight treatments typically take less than one hour to perform. When the light pulses are delivered to the skin, patients usually experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Immediately following treatment, the treated area may appear slightly red or swollen, and the feeling may be that of a mild sunburn. These effects are temporary, typically residing within a few hours, or possibly a day or longer. Brown spots will also begin to darken after treatment. Within several weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade.
For optimal results, a series of three to five LimeLight treatments are usually recommended. With each treatment, the redness and/or brown spots will decrease, revealing a more even, radiant complexion. Once brown spots and blood vessels have been treated they will not reappear, however new ones may be formed. It is highly recommended that broad-spectrum sunblock be applied daily to minimize the formation of new sun damage.
For those individuals who prefer to treat individual sun spots, facial vessels, or cherry spots on any part of the body, we also offer Acutip. Using similar technology as LimeLight, the light pulse is delivered directly onto the pigmented spot. Brown spots will immediately darken and flake off after several weeks. Facial veins and cherry spots may be eliminated immediately, or may darken first and then gradually disappear as the vessel is reabsorbed by the body. For most spots, one to two treatments is typically sufficient.
