What is Botox Cosmetic®?

Botox Cosmetic® is an injectable treatment that is derived from a purified protein. When injected in tiny amounts, Botox Cosmetic® relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles, giving your face a naturally refreshed appearance.

Where can Botox Cosmetic® be used?

Botox Cosmetic® is commonly used to treat the following:

• Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
• Horizontal forehead lines
• Crow’s feet (around the eyes)

What is the treatment like?

Before each treatment with Botox Cosmetic®, you will meet with our physician to discuss your desired outcome, and to determine the best treatment plan for you. Botox® treatment is quick and simple, taking approximately 10-15 minutes to perform. Our physicians use an individual fine needle for each injection site, therefore there is very little discomfort associated with the procedure. The sensation has been compared to that of a bug bite. No sedation or local anaesthetic is required, and you will be able to resume your normal activities immediately following treatment with Botox Cosmetic®.

Will I look frozen or different?

Botox Cosmetic® is intended to enhance the way you look, not alter it. When administered by an experienced physician, the results from a Botox Cosmetic® treatment are natural looking, giving you a refreshed appearance. You will still be able to make facial expressions, and you will have normal feeling in the treated areas.

How long will the results from Botox Cosmetic® last?

Results will begin to occur within several days after your treatment, as you notice your lines and wrinkles gradually diminishing. Full results will be evident after approximately two weeks, and will generally last up to four months. In order to maintain your results, it is recommended that Botox Cosmetic® treatment be repeated every four months. After repeated treatments, the effects may begin to last longer.

Is Botox Cosmetic® safe?

Botox® has been licensed and approved in Canada for over 20 years as an effective treatment of many medical conditions. In 2001, Health Canada approved Botox Cosmetic® for wrinkle therapy.
